Many humans now own automobiles and crowd our streets as they travel to their destination. This has created problems for our environment because gasoline engines in automobiles release carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and carcinogens into the atmosphere.
These chemicals have created unnatural brown clouds above large cities and create respiratory problems in humans.
They also cause our ozone layer to deteriorate and create a global warming effect that is still being studied. Automobile companies have taken steps to reduce the environmentally harmful products released from automobiles.
The possibilities are battery powered cars that have electric engines, hybrid automobiles that operate both on an electric battery powered motor and an internal combustion engine similar to previous automobiles, and fuel cells that run on hydrogen.
There are some problems in the development of this technology, however, because they are very expensive to produce and they need large amounts of hydrogen to operate. My research will look critically into alternative forms of automobile propulsion systems.
I will provide background information on the recent developments of engines for automobiles which include battery, hybrid, and fuel cell powered engines. My essay will center on fuel cell technology and I will address the question of whether fuel cell technology is the best alternative to all gasoline engines.
My research will show the problems of fuel cell technology and what is being done to overcome these problems.
I will look into the possibility of fuel cells catching on and being the next propulsion source for our automobiles. I am interested in this because if fuel cells are successful and we are able to use them in not only our personal cars but public transportation, shipping, and industrial environments our air will clear up considerately.
I will present information on this fuel cell technology and where our professionals are at right now in the recent developments. I will address whether fuel cells are an adequate alternative to gasoline engines. For my research I plan to use 1 full text articles 2 books 3 government findings 4 and an interview of a professional.
The articles I will research will give me information of the health risks involved with pollution from automobiles. The books used in my research will give me background information on the problems with automobile pollution in large cities and recent books will give additional information on the development of fuel cells.
Interviews will be used to get recent insights from people within the technology development and will aid in showing whether fuel cells will be able to be used in the future. Government findings will give information on health risks from pollution and funds that are being used to develop fuel cells.
This information will enable me to address the issue of whether fuel cells have a future and what we can do to aid in this development. I plan on performing an interview on this subject.
